S’Wonderful: The Great American Songbook

The Great American Songbook is the world’s favourite collection of songs from a bygone era which has survived the tests of time and changing audiences to remain on the list of the most covered set of songs in the world.

Great songs need great singers and S’Wonderful is truly blessed with three exceptional ones. The cast is led by Paul Roberts, former lead singer of The Stranglers. Keeping his rock roots at bay, the closely-kept secret of his crooner style and swing voice is now very much out. The female vocals are provided by Miranda Wilford who has appeared in several hit shows in London’s West End, regularly performs as featured vocalist with the Syd Lawrence Orchestra and can often be found headlining at leading jazz venues across the UK and overseas. This stellar cast is completed by Mike Sterling. Mike is best known for having played arguably the two most significant male lead roles in London’s West End: The Phantom in The Phantom of the Opera and Jean Valjean in Les Misérables, receiving critical acclaim for his portrayal of both characters.

S’Wonderful features best-loved songs by Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, Rodgers & Hammerstein, George & Ira Gershwin and Rodgers & Hart including toe-tapping tunes such as Puttin’ on the Ritz, Let’s Face the Music and Dance and those timeless classics Over the Rainbow and Summertime.

Lands Thursday 16 March 2.30pm and 7.30pm.
