February's Resistance Comedy Line Up

Here's a run down of February 14th's Resistance Comedy line up, in a bit more detail:

JOSH JAMES: Josh James is an Essex boy with a difference - his deceptively clever material juxtaposes his stereotype as he tackles a variety of topics including Brexit, Dementia and body image. He is the recent winner of The Essex Comedian of the Year 2019 and has a fast growing social media following on Instagram @jamesyjosh.
“Josh is one of the best newcomers on the circuit, but if all fails he'll probably end up on love island” The Stand-Up Club, London
“He's a proper Essex geezer and is actually super smart underneath the Persona... I loved it!” The Stand Comedy Club, Newcastle

ZAHRA BARRI: If you haven't had the chance to see her, now is the time.
Zahra's a bit like the country of Turkey, she's a mix of Eastern and Western culture and also she is a bird. Not just a bird she was recently reviewed as a 'dog' by Mumble Comedy.
Mumble Comedy described her as "A buzzy fluffball of comedy unafraid to take risks, like a cute Lhasapoo puppy with a surprising snarl." Mumble Comedy**** (This is nice because I don't think there are very many female comedians that can pass for dogs.)
BBC New Comedian Semi Finalist 2015
Last Minute Comedian of The Year Runner Up 2015
As heard on BBC Radio 4 Extra, BBC Radio 2, Talk Radio, BBC Asian Network. As seen on BBC iPlayer.

SCARLETT DOBSON: Scarlett started her comedy career at the University of Kent's student comedy night Monkeyshine Comedy Club. Since then she has been gigging up and down the country including a debut solo show run in her home town Catford (which she is just as ashamed of as you are to read). Dark and politically charged, she has with her unique "tell it how it is style” embraced the tension with her delivery.
"Very engaging and great stage presence. Nicely thought out material. Will go a long way." Christian Steel (2016)
"Very Funny Scarlett Dobson...had crowds roaring with laughter." Birmingham updates (2019)
“She’s dangerous, but in a good way.” Jay Droch (2019)

SAM PICONE: Writer and comedian Sam Picone has been taking the UK circuit by storm in the past year becoming a much sought after name on the London circuit. He has the seal of approval from one of the biggest names in comedy and his anecdotal style dips into issues such as race, identity and relationships where he underpins big ideas with a blunt, irreverent twist.
“Effortless delivery and slick timing...a natural on stage” Mo Gilligan
Awards & Competitions
2NorthDown New Act Of The Year Semi-Finalist (ongoing), Winner of South Kensington Comedy Club Go NY 2019, Winner of Comedy Funhouse Gong Show October 2019, Up The Creek: One To Watch Semi-Finalist

STEPHEN CATLING: Raggedy Northerner and hellraiser for the last 3 years on the southern circuit praised for his inventiveness and anarchic originality; his combination of surrealist story-telling and slapstick clowning has managed to get him to the Stand-up comedy nights Final and Leicester Square New Comedian quarter final in 2019 respectively, along with a recommendation for his WIP "Stephen Catling Vs Himself & Other Monsters" from The Londonist in 2018 and a current nominee for the Pegasus comedy awards 2020.

JERRY BAKEWELL (Resistance Comedy Regular): HOW DO!!!
Weighing in at 17-and-a-half stone, Jerry Bakewell is Britain's most unsuccessful Mexican wrestler and Europe's heaviest light entertainer. Winner of the 1993 Les Dennis Bravery Award, Jerry was recently described as a laugh every other minute, following a one-and-a-half minute set.

PHILÉO HUFF:Philéo is in opposition of being defined in only one way. He writes and performs with a surreal approach, telling truthful stories that have made his audiences, laugh, stand up & applaud and even re-think their learned moral positions.
Originally from Atlanta, his turbulent personal experiences have enabled countless controversial and hilarious anecdotes, that inform his deeply realist-nihilist comedic style.
With a confronting yet upbeat honesty, he unapologetically grapples with topics like sex & sexuality, politics & society, humanity's hypocrisies, death, suicide, drug use, depression, and mental illness.
His non-traditional approach has earned him opportunities to perform all over the globe. He's accrued numerous self-produced narrative projects including short films, podcasts, and a developing series.
"Electric! With a sharp mind and wit to match!" MTV
"This is the comic other comics should be watching." Comedy Central
