Prior to the launch on EN_FOOD Cafe's new menu launch - We asked Head Chef Ben Murphy a few essential questions....
If you were hosting a dinner party, what 4 guests (Past or present) would you invite? And why?
I would have to invite David Attenborough for the voice alone. Jamie Oliver because I admire someone who can appear on so many shows and in so many books and still come across well. Arsene Wenger for football and philosophy! And maybe Billy Connolly just to lighten the mood!
What is your favourite dish from the new menu?
It would have to be the Turkish Gozleme Flatbread! Most people from Enfield will have seen the old Turkish Grandmothers that sit in the front windows of the bakeries on Green Lanes rolling and cooking Gozleme on a round Turkish grill. It’s something I always associated with Enfield and I was always eager to have it on my menu. The bonus is that we use the amazing Feta from local supplier Kupros, Turkish Yafka pastry from legendary Enfield Bakery Yasar Halim and mix it with Spinach and our own Za’atar middle Eastern spice mix for our own unique gozleme.
What can Dugdale visitors expect from visiting the newly refurbished EN_FOOD Café?
The Menu showcases the amazing food that is being produced in Enfield including amazing organic vegetables from Forty Hall Farm, freshly baked artisan bread from Holtwhites Bakery and even locally made Feta and Halloumi from Kupros Dairy. EN_FOOD want to make the Dugdale Centre a hub for all things local in Enfield.
What do you enjoy most about being a Head Chef?
The creative side of cooking for sure and telling a story about a place through the menu. Our menu and the specials we cook always relate to the different ethnic groups that make Enfield such a diverse and special borough.
And the question everybody’s asking…What do you make of the Greggs Vegan Sausage Roll?
They are actually quite tasty! The only thing that worries me is that I don’t know what they are made of!
